Every year in June in Chantilly (40km from Paris) there is one of the most prestigious racing events – Prix de Diane Longines. For the equestrian world this even is at the same level as the Royal Ascot and Dubai World Cup. The race takes place in an exceptional location, right between Chantilly Castle and the stables of the Conde princes.
Every year the Chantilly Hippodrome attracts more than 30,000 finely dressed spectators. For 150€ (reservation only) food lovers are invited at Diane’s table by the side of the racing track. For 35€ Fauchon offers a spring picnic, packed in a nice hat box. Or you can bring everything with you and have a nice picnic right on the lawn. Hairdressers are on duty until the evening, ready to help the ladies arrange their hairstyles.
During the day, in addition to racing, there is a competition for the best hat, the winner of which receives a valuable prize from sponsors and the title “Mademoiselle Diane Longines. And after the races, a party with live music will close this day of excitement and fun.
Prix de Diane has nothing to do with Princess Lady Di. It was established in 1843 and named after the Roman goddess of hunt – Diana (in French, “Diane”), who also protects flora and fauna. In dedication to the female divinity the race is restricted to the three-year-old thoroughbred mares.
I’ve been attending this event for years and I’m always looking forward to wearing my new hat.
J’assiste à cet événement depuis des années et j’ai toujours hâte de porter mon nouveau chapeau.
